So apparently Domino’s is testing a new pizza in limited markets. The Big Deal Pizza is a rectangular 10-slice pizza that looks somewhat like pan pizza or maybe even the Big D’s answer to Sicilian slices. The only market that I know of that has it, though, is San Diego.

Looks like their breadsticks made big enough to hold the sauce on top with some extra cheese thrown on.

  1. So Saturday night was the end of a long and trying day, so we cruised past Domino’s in Arlington (Jacksonville, FL) on the way home, and asked what they had ready to eat. The answer was a peperoni “Big Deal” pizza.
The product was about 8″X10 or 11″, with average unsauced margins, cut into 10 slices. Toppings and cheese were adequate but not generous.
Previously, Domino’s had responded to Little Caesar’s with a $4.99 large. That 14″ pizza was almost 155 square inches of food. This baby was at or about 80 – 88 square inches, just over half. On the other hand, we got 10 slices instead of the measly eight with the 14″ product. Of course the eight slices were 19.4 square inches each, and the 10 were 8.8 square inches.
I think this marketing trick was originated by Proctor and Gamble to decrease package size of Charmin toilet paper. Whatever.

  2. The Pizza At the “original” BIG DEAL Pizzeria on Monroe Ave in Rochester is much better, bigger, and has generous toppings! It was 9.99 and worth every penny! They can steal the name, but not the pizza!
